So, we set out yesterday to go to Bastogne for the annual Bastogne March. There is a 3K, 13K and 20-somethingK walk with reinactors of the Battle of the Bulge along the way. It's supposed to be a pretty accurate portrayal - bringing history to life. :) We stopped at Spangdahlem Air Base to shorten our drive on Saturday morning, because the walk started at 8AM and is 3 hours away from us. Anyway, Christian ended up staying up most of the night. I think his stomach was bothering him. :( He finally fell asleep (around 5-ish), so we decided not to wake up with our 6 AM alarm. We're going to try again next year.
So, we decided to explore the Spangdahlem/Bitburg area instead. It has more rolling hills than our area of Germany, but it also seemed more barren. Maybe it was just the areas we were in? We didn't do any research before hand, because we weren't planning to stay there very long. We did make it to the Bitburg military base to do a bit of Christmas shopping. Yeah! We also took Christian to see Santa. He cried. I know it happens a lot, but I was surprised. He's usually pretty sociable and doesn't get scared very easily. He still wasn't feeling quite himself, so we're going to try the Santa thing again in a few days.
Here are a few pictures from our trip.

This is a bad picture, but it shows some of the Christmas decorations in the Bitburg Centrum.

Christian clapping - he LOVED this plane. It moved back and forth AND played a cartoon on a little television inside. It was a bit dark - some cats caught a little lamb and were preparing to stew him. Unfortunately our time was up before the lamb escaped
(that's how we told Christian it ended anyway). :)
